More Information about Greeley

Greeley may be the place that fits the bill if you are seeking a community that is active and involved with each other, as well as the city they all call home. Greeley was named for Horace Greeley, the New York newspaper man who, he himself, took the advice he later made famous to, "go west young man!"

Beginning as an experimental utopian society in the 1860s by another newspaper man, Greeley now serves as county seat for Weld County. Many may have read the James A. Michener tome, "Centennial," but you may not know Greeley was the inspiring setting for the book. Michener actually earned his master's degree and taught for some years at the University of Northern Colorado. It's no surprise that Greeley has also earned the title of a Colorado Certified Creative District.

Between the delightful Colorado Model Railroad Museum or one of the large annual festivities, such as the nation's largest Jazz Festival in the spring, the AgriCULTURAL Fest and Feast or the 100-year-old tradition known as the Greeley Stampede, heading 49 miles northeast of Denver should be on everyone's to do list.

Looking for a community in Colorado that may inspire your own great American novel? Greeley just may be the place!
